Cap’s Place in Florida is a historic restaurant that dates back to the 1920s, serving up succulent steaks, fresh snapper, and stone crab.

What is now recognized as a national landmark, Cap’s was once part-casino, part-rum-running speakeasy sitting on an island off of Lighthouse Point.

Back in the 1920s, Cap Knight, Lola Knight, and Al Hasis built wooden shacks sitting on top of an old barge and floated it up the Intracoastal to its final resting place on the island.

Even now, visitors can only access Cap’s by way of a boat but don’t worry if you don’t have one, there is a ferry that runs continuously to and fro.

The restaurant is a little bit old school in terms of decor, with variants of wood throughout and shipping decor scattered everywhere.

Cap’s has been lauded as having some of the best seafood in Florida, with an emphasis on the bare basics like chilled shrimp cocktail, smoked fish dip, a broiled seafood platter, or sweet wild scallops.

The steaks are also top-notch, like the lightly seasoned Rib Eye topped with sautéed onions, grilled to perfection.

Sit inside with the air conditioning, or outside on the patio where you can keep an eye on the waterways.
