Every True Milwaukeean Has Had These 11 Bizarre Experiences At Least Once

If you've spent any amount of time in Milwaukee, you'll know that our city is unique. Our habits are a little out there, we're obsessed with our food traditions, and we pronounce words differently than you. If you're a true Milwaukeean, however, there are some interesting situations you've found yourself in that people from elsewhere simply cannot relate to. You know you're a true Milwaukeean if you've experienced these ten strange situations.

1. You’ve gotten lost if someone did not direct you using the lake.

Unless you've been told "it's ten minutes toward the lake," you're probably lost.

2. You’ve decided what to wear based on this little light.

Here in Milwaukee, our weather is based on the light on top of the gas light building. You'll find yourself singing...

When the flame is red, it's warm weather ahead!

When the flame is gold, watch out for cold!

When the flame is blue, there's no change in view!

When there's a flickering flame, expect snow or rain!

3. The next day was supposed to be sunny and warm, but it snowed anyway.

You're sure to have your winter jacket and a shovel prepared just in case, even in May.

4. You’ve regularly driven in dangerous conditions.

Gotta get to work!

5. You’ve shown up at Miller Park at the crack of dawn to tailgate.

There's nothing like a beer and a brat for breakfast. The pregame is the game!

6. You’ve gotten weird looks for squeaking your cheese.

It's not that weird... you have to see if your fresh cheese curd squeaks to know if it's real.

7. People have questioned your Pabst obsession.

The only answer is "I'm from Milwaukee."

8. You’ve been asked if you live on a farm.

Despite living in a major city, people hear "Wisconsin" and think "farm."

9. You have a picture of yourself next to The Fonz.

This is quite possibly the most touristy thing to do in Milwaukee, but we've all done it. If you're telling us you don't have a picture of yourself doing a thumbs up pose next to our bronze statue of The Fonz on our Riverwalk, you're lying.

10. You’ve sincerely lost your friends at Summerfest at least once.

It is the World's Largest Music Festival, after all.

11. You’ve mistaken neighbors for family.

It's hard not to - Milwaukeeans will always treat you like family!
