Hot Air Balloons Will Be Soaring At Washington’s Walla Walla Balloon Stampede

The Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is an annual hot air balloon festival in Walla Walla Valley that brings together locals and tourists for a magical experience.

Since 1975, autumn's arrival has been marked in the Walla Walla Valley by an annual hot air balloon festival that has stolen our hearts. The Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is a beloved tradition that brings locals and tourists together for one incredible long weekend.

For obvious reasons, the 2020 festival was canceled. And while we were happy to do our part to help everyone stay healthy, we're thrilled to see that the Walla Walla Balloon Stampede will be returning to the skies this year. Mark your calendars for October 13 - 17, because it's sure to be better than ever.

The Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is actually the third oldest hot air balloon event in the country.

When the festival started, it only featured four hot air balloons. In recent years, we've seen over two dozen take the sky.

The festivities tend to kick off on Wednesday, and this year is no exception.

Wednesday is always Kids' Day, where children are the guests of honor.

Wednesday is also Mayor’s Cup Launch, meaning pilots are required to fly away from the launch site and return to where they took off.

As it turns out, this is no easy task.

Channel your inner morning person, because most of the balloon flights start early.

Typically, flights are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning at 7:15 a.m. In recent years, there has also been a night launch on Friday evening.

As usual, the balloons will be launching from Howard Tietan Park.

Arrive bright and early so you can stake out the best spots. You may even arrive in time to chat with one of the professionals.

We can't wait to see those beautiful hot air balloons soaring through the air again.

Walla Walla is always pretty magical, but during the annual Balloon Stampede, it's downright enchanting here.
