You’ll Never Want To Arrive At Your Destination After Driving On The Most Beautiful Road In Texas

Highway 118 near Big Bend in Texas offers a breathtaking scenic drive through diverse landscapes including deserts and mountains.

Sometimes, the drive is the destination in and of itself. Y'all know the kinds of places I'm talking about - stretches of highway that run through the middle of nowhere, mountains looming in the distance and beckoning you closer with each mile you travel. Luckily, we have quite a few such roads here in Texas, the most beautiful of them all easily being Highway 118 near Big Bend. If you've driven on it before, you'll know exactly what I mean...and if not, well, just beware - you may never want to come home.

Highway 118 is 155 miles long and runs from Big Bend National Park north to Kent through Study Butte, Alpine, and Fort Davis.

It passes through several other state and federal parks as well as wildlife observation areas. Most of the terrain is scrub land of the Chihuahuan Desert, however parts of the Davis Mountains are heavily forested.

Called the "Texas Mountain Trail," Highway 118 is part of the National Scenic Byways Program because the towering Davis and Chisos Mountains surround the route at every turn.
