The idea for the Great Smoky Mountain Flea Market in Kodak all started with a man named Charles E. Atchley.
Mr. Atchley owned a couple of restaurants in a mall and noticed that the mall always granted a high volume of people but the expenses were very high. How could you create the same traffic but with less overhead? The idea came to Charles like he struck gold: he would create an indoor flea market, pairing the experience and knowledge of mall shopping with the niche field of treasuring hunting.
