This Small Town Antique Shop and Cafe is the Perfect Way To Spend a Rainy Afternoon

If you ever need the perfect rainy day retreat, this antique shop and coffee spot is where you’ll want to be.

Something about a rainy afternoon calls for a cozy escape, and I recently found the perfect place for just that while visiting family in South Carolina. Po' Dunk Holler and Possum’s Coffee Shack combine together to make the perfect roadside stop, pairing both unique antiques with deliciously crafted coffee. What began as a routine errand to the nearby post office was a few hours of shopping, sipping, and escaping the rainy weather. I even returned the following day to snap some photos in the sunshine! If you’re anything like me, a dreary day is the perfect excuse to slow down, sip something warm, and get lost in the nostalgia of vintage treasures.

Stepping inside Possum’s Coffee Shack, I was enveloped by the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The walls were lined with an eclectic mix of antique finds—old books, delicate china, rustic furniture, and quirky knickknacks that each seemed to infuse pieces of history into the present. Of course, paying homage to the namesake, there was possum regalia everywhere, from the mugs and the artwork to the coffee labels, t-shirt designs, and more.

Before diving into my treasure hunt, I made a beeline for the café counter, where a friendly barista recommended their signature oat milk latte—perfectly frothy and infused with just the right hint of vanilla. I paired it with a deliciously flaky and buttery croissant, melting on my tongue into bites of perfection. Looking around, I realized this was the perfect place for a daytime stop, an escape from the cold, or maybe a meet-up with friends to enjoy the various board games, and maybe walk away with a scoop of ice cream, too.

Just through the hallway from the cafe, I entered the antique side, which was brimming with finds, separated by owner stalls. As I meandered through the shop, I couldn’t help but marvel at the mix of old and new. There were vintage records alongside locally made candles and antique furniture next to handcrafted jewelry. Every shelf and display seemed carefully curated, making the browsing experience feel more like a delightful treasure hunt than just shopping. I spent over an hour flipping through vintage postcards and admiring timeworn cookbooks before finally expanding my vinyl collection with a few interesting finds.

What made this stop at Po' Dunk Holler and Possum’s Coffee Shack even more special was the people. Locals popped in for their quick caffeine fix. Visitors strolled slowly through the antiques, stopping to connect with one another over an interesting find. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a gem, a secret worth keeping but too wonderful not to share.

By the time I stepped back outside, the rain had softened to a mist, and I carried with me not just a small bag of antique finds, but the feeling of having spent the afternoon exactly as one should on a rainy day—unhurried, inspired, and wonderfully content. If you ever need the perfect rainy day retreat, Little Mountain, South Carolina, is where you’ll want to be.

Meanwhile, make sure to visit nearby Chapin, South Carolina, too. This tiny rural community is a lakeside gem.
