Visit This Sandwich Shop In An Old Converted School Building In Pittsburgh For The Best Lunch Ever

Old School Italian Sandwich Shop in Homestead, Pittsburgh, offers nostalgic dining with delicious sandwiches and other meals in a former school building.

If you grew up in the Homestead neighborhood of Pittsburgh, you've probably passed by the old Saint Michael's Parochial School. Until 1965, the school educated local children. But, from 1965 until the 21st century, it sat empty, awaiting the transformation that would finally come in 2012. Today, the old school - complete with its original chalk boards - houses a delightful sandwich shop that serves sandwiches as well as other mouthwatering meals.

Look for the bright yellow sign that says "ENTER" then follow it to the Old School Italian Sandwich Shop in Homestead.

Old School Italian Sandwich Shop only accepts cash.

When you first walk through the front door, expect the nostalgia of your own school days - at the sight of the high windows and chalkboard - to wash over you.

Then, give in to your hunger as you peruse the menu, brimming with delicious dishes. Kick off your meal with a bowl of soup (when available) or a crisp salad.

Or, start by ordering one of the hearty sandwiches, such as The History Lesson, an Italian meatball sandwich so soft it's sure to "melt in your mouth."

Other aptly-named sandwiches include the Learning Pig Latin (a sweet ham sandwich), and The Classic Italian.

And, if you're in the mood for pasta, try the scrumptious pasta meal topped with a homemade meatball and paired with a fresh bun.

Don't forget to save room for a scrumptious dessert, such as the fresh baked vanilla cake or chocolate cake or the homemade biscotti.
