The Little Known Observatory In Pennsylvania With Views That Are Second To None
What's better than sitting back and gazing at the nighttime sky? Scanning for the Milky Way? Pointing out the constellations? And wishing on a shooting star? Well, how about a visit to this observatory in Pennsylvania, where you can do all of that while peering through a professional telescope? But if you want to experience stargazing at this observatory, you'll have to do so on one of the public viewing evenings. (In other words, start planning your visit now.)
Sit back and gaze at the nighttime sky at Naylor Observatory, run by the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, PA., Inc.
Formed in 1955, the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, PA., Inc. purchased the land on which the Edward L. Naylor Astronomical Center sits, in 1967.
Since then, more than 100 amateur astronomers have become members of the society, which depends heavily on membership fees and public donations to keep running.
Members attend monthly meetings, which the public is welcome to attend, and share their passion for astronomy with other society members.
Of course, the public is also invited to view the nighttime sky on select public viewing evenings throughout the year.
Upcoming public sessions include August 5 and 19, September 2 and 15, October 13 and 20, and November 11, 2018.
And, if you want to learn more about astronomy, sign up for the Introductory Observational Astronomy Course, a six-week class held in April and September each year.
Naylor Observatory is located at 670 Observatory Dr., Lewisberry, PA 17339.
