Head To These 6 Portland Area Museums This Fall Without Paying A Cent

This fall you can get into these 6 museums for free as part of Museum Day Live presented by Smithsonian Magazine. This is a great opportunity to visit a museum you have never been to, or revisit a favorite. Taking place September 23, this fun and free event is fast approaching so be sure to mark your calendars and sign up for your free tickets in advance to be ready for the fun.

1. Architectural Heritage Center

The goal of The Architectural Heritage is to promote the cultural heritage of communities through the study of the "art, craft, and context of historical buildings." Explore some of Portland's earliest architecture in the exhibit of Minor White's photographs from 1938 to 1942 along Front Street. The Architectural Heritage Center is located at 701 SE Grand Avenue.

2. Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

Located in McMinnville, this is the premier air and space museum in the region. Featuring over 200 historic aircraft, as well as the famed Spruce Goose, this is one amazing place to visit for plane lovers. See spacecraft and airplanes up close at 500 NE Captain Michael King Smith Way in McMinnville.

3. Oregon Historical Society

This museum has collected the artifacts, art, and memorabilia that define Oregon for over a century. Explore the Oregon My Oregon exhibit with encompasses an entire floor of the museum and takes you on a 19th century journey of the early settlers and Native Americans who inhabited the region at the time.

Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center

Celebrating the lives and contributions of Japanese Americans of Oregon, this museum features the exhibit, Oregon Nikkei: Reflections of an American Community, which follows the Japanese American community through early settlement, WWII and into the modern day. Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center is located at 121 NW 2nd Avenue.

Portland Art Museum

Operating since 1892, the Portland Art Museum has amassed an impressive collection of over 42,000 objects in its 100,000 plus square foot location downtown. The premier visual arts destination in the city, the Portland Art Museum is located at 1219 SW Park Avenue.

Blue Sky/Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts

Displaying a wide variety of photographic exhibits, this center has been in operation since 1975 and regularly showcases regional photographers and hosts artist talks. The center is known for discovering new photographers, and its current exhibits include work by Eunjong Lee and

Alejandra Laviada. Blue Sky is located at 122 NW 8th Avenue.
