9 Ways Portland Has Quietly Become One Of The Best Dining Destinations In America
Over the years, our food scene in Portland has garnered much praise. From a foodie capital to a dining haven, Portland is definitely on the map as a culinary superstar. Here are the 9 reasons why we have become such a foodie force.
1. Our amazing farmers are second to none.
We have a swath of dedicated producers of food. From fruits and vegetables to meat and grains, our local farming economy grows and sells quality products without abandon.
2. Our long growing season plays a role.
Our mild winters (last year notwithstanding) make it possible to grow cool weather crops throughout spring, fall, and even winter, enabling us to have access to fresh, local produce most of the year.
3. We've got the most delicious fruits and vegetables.
And that leads us to our produce. We have so many great fruits, berries, and vegetables here in the valley that it is hard to ignore them. Instead, they form the backbone of many signature Portland dishes.
4. Our food cart scene is superb.
You can't walk far in downtown and not come across a swoon-worthy food cart. We take this type of fast-food to whole new levels and it elevates the entire food game.
5. Our traditional restaurants are great, too.
Our restaurants are impeccable and serve up an amazing variety of foods for every taste. Pictured here is Yakuza Lounge, a delicious Japanese pub.
6. A huge number of our restaurants have been featured on TV shows.
Our food scene has been chronicled on TV for years. Screen Door, a popular Southern restaurant has been profiled on many travel and cooking shows.
7. If you want beer or wine, we have that.
We have enough local brews that you never have to try anything from outside the valley when dining in Portland.
8. We take brunch seriously.
Brunch is an important meal of the weekend and the love for it in Portland has propelled it to grow even more. City State Diner is just one of many places around town serving up a mouthwatering brunch.
9. We are a haven for talented chefs.
We have a wealth of great chefs in the Portland area. Between James Beard Award recipients and newcomers, we are swimming in talented chefs who continue to intrigue our palates and leave us wanting more.
