The Model Train Show In Portland Everyone Should Experience At Least Once

Train lovers take note: You have just two weekends left to catch this amazing model train show happening in North Portland. Featuring a 4200-square foot space packed with over thousands of feet of track modeled after Portland and the Columbia Gorge, this is one cool show that you are not going to want to miss.

Operated by the Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club, this annual open house is truly epic.

Fully staffed with over 30 operators, there is plenty of action as the trains operate all day.

The details are what makes this train show so impressive.

You will undoubtably recognize many landmarks along the tracks.

Designed to look like the Portland area in the 1950s, the models are incredible.

The layout is designed to allow for visitors to easily move through the space, while featuring the Columbia Gorge through to Bend.

Even Thomas the Train and all his friends will be there chugging along on the tracks to excite young kids and the young at heart.

Locating landmarks throughout the tracks is definitely a highlight.

Union Station is perhaps one of the most impressive sights of the show.

Built directly from original blueprints, the model is replicated to look exactly as the station did in the 1950s.

From Portland to The Dalles and Bend, this model is an impressive masterpiece that must be seen to be believed.

Around since 1947, the Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club is one of the largest model railroad clubs in the Western United States and you should definitely visit their amazing production this season.

If you want to see even more, there are VIP Tours behind the scenes to get a look at how the whole operation works.

Tours begin at 8:45am, are $15 per person, and require advance reservations, which can be made online.

The open house takes place from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays in November.

Admission is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 11.

Plan on spending about an hour to watch the trains move over the tracks and to see the change from night to day.

The model railroad open house takes place at the club's building located at 2505 N. Vancouver Avenue.
