Portland’s Magical Mermaid Parade Will Make All Your Childhood Dreams Come True
There is a mermaid parade coming to Portland this weekend and you are going to want to be there. This fun waterfront event celebrates water mythology, all things mermaid, and is a body positive event for all ages. The 2nd Annual Portlandia Mermaid Parade kicks off this weekend, Saturday July 28, and promises a day of fun for all.
There will be a gathering and opening ceremony at noon, followed by the parade at 1 pm.
This year's parade theme is Water Is Life. Looking to protect and advocate for water health, this parade will bring awareness to the issues surrounding water.
The parade and gathering will begin at the Japanese American Historical Plaza.
Performances will also take place during the opening ceremony, so you are not going to want to skip it.
The 1-mile long parade route will travel along the waterfront to Poet's Beach where it will conclude.
Once at the beach, the mermaids will have some social time, and if desired, can even swim in the river. The fun, family-friendly event is a great way to release your inner child and have some good old mermaid fun.
If you want to get in on the fun, while celebrating our city's connection to its waterways and river lore, this is a great way to do it.
