If you love getting in the Christmas spirit, this festival in Portland is everything you need this holiday season. Featuring hours of caroling nightly for over a month, The Grotto is the premier place to hear all your favorites and celebrate a little holiday cheer. This massive festival brings together 160 holiday concerts and you are not going to want to miss it.
The Christmas Festival of the Lights takes place at the same time, making the occasion all the more festive.
Starting the day after Thanksgiving, the impressive display of lights and songs continues until December 30.
Each night, several choirs will take the stage to wow audiences with seasonal favorites.
Choirs include those from local high schools, colleges, churches and civic groups.
The performances begin at 5:15 pm each night and continues until 9:30 pm.
The 600-seat chapel with cathedral quality acoustics is a wonderful place to see a choir perform, and you will enjoy every minute of it.
Outdoor caroling will take place at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 p.m. nightly by the Grotto Carolers.
You will have plenty of time to listen to the wonderful sounds of the season and explore the expansive grounds during your time at the festival.
The festival gets crowded, so you are going to want to plan ahead.
If you are looking to see a specific choir, plan to arrive about 30 minutes early to ensure you make it in with plenty of time.
The Grotto, a Catholic shrine, is located on 62 acres of greenspace in NE Portland.
This lovely respite lights up at the holidays with thousands of lights spanning its grounds.
A petting zoo takes place on the grounds during the festival.
This fun annual tradition includes many animals, and this year, a baby camel will also be on hand to join in the zoo activities.
The choirs perform indoors and other activities take place in a tented area, but you are going to want to dress warmly for the outdoors.
A Christmas-themed puppet show takes place nightly as well at 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Parking at the event is free, but it does get crowded so plan on a little extra time. This year, The Grotto will be offering overflow parking and a free shuttle from the lot at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at NE 102nd and Prescott. The Grotto is located at 8840 NE Skidmore Street.
