North Dakota’s Pioneer Trails Regional Museum Is Offering Paleo Site Tours All Summer

Pioneer Trails Regional Museum offers immersive paleo site tours in North Dakota, providing a unique look into the state's natural history and geology.

Hey, North Dakotans - looking for something cool to do with (or without) the kids this summer? Well, hold onto your (paleontologist) hat, because I've got something totally awesome happening in our beautiful state for all of summer (and maybe even a little into fall, weather permitting): the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum is offering amazing, full-day, totally immersive paleo site tours in North Dakota unlike anything offered by anyone else. It's an amazing look into the natural history of our state, its geology, and all the secrets it holds. Check it out and then, well, go check it out!

Pioneer Trails Regional Museum is an eye-opening little place where you can almost travel back in time.

It's a place to learn all about geology and a bit of paleontology, too, and this amazing science is the focus of the outings, too.

What do these outings consist of? Lots!

First, you'll take a short drive to the site, where the guided tour will continue. Here, you will accompany museum staff as they collect fossil localities.

Participants will, of course, be able to help with the collection process.

Learn about the local geology, as well as the fossils found and the ones you might expect to find here. It's utterly intriguing to learn about each creature, many of which no longer roam the planet.

You never know what you'll find!

On top of everything, you'll learn about how to safely (and correctly) collect specimens without harming the overall landscape.

Around noon, tours return to the museum for lunch.

Then, participants will accompany museum curators to witness - and take part in - the preparation and curation processes. The tours end around 4:30 p.m., making it a work days' worth of adventure.

Tours are available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through August.

But keep an eye out - sometimes outings will be held in September and October if the weather permits.

For the most up-to-date hours, tour schedules, and more, be sure to visit the official Pioneer Trails Regional Museum website.
