Enjoy An Adventure At The U.S. National Whitewater Center, A Kayak Park Hiding In North Carolina

It's fun to discover new and exciting places right here in our own back yard in North Carolina. If you, or some people you know, have a secret amphibious side that likes to come out and play, then this unique kayak park in North Carolina is spot-on for a day trip filled with fun times.

Many people in the Tar Heel State have likely at least heard of the U.S. National Whitewater Center, but few actually know it's not just for whitewater rafting activities. That's right. You can also kayak — and do a LOT of other activities here.

The 1,300-acre park, located outside of Charlotte and adjacent to the Catawba River, opened in 2006 and is home to the largest recirculating whitewater river in the world.

If you're an avid kayaker, then you are welcome to give the rapids a try — as long as you have Class III experience and bring your own equipment.

Always wanted to learn how it's done? Instruction is available for all skill levels. If you've always wanted to give whitewater kayaking a try, but have been reluctant due to the inherent risk in the wild, then this could be your opportunity to make it happen in a controlled environment with knowledgeable instructors.

However, if you're more comfortable in the yak on flat water, then this kayak park has you covered with some flat water areas too.

You can also partake in a group paddle on the adjoining Catawba River.

A pass for one of the group flat water paddles includes all equipment you'll need for the adventure. Just show up and have fun!

The U.S. National Whitewater Center is perfect for kayaks, canoes, rafts, and stand-up paddle boards. All flat water activities equipment needed is included with your pass, but if you have your own you're welcome to use it.
