When I was little, on Christmas Eve my mom would read The Polar Express to me. I remember being so enchanted, and also wishing I could have my very own chance to slip away on a snowy Christmas Eve and take an adventure to the North Pole. Reading the book is a beloved tradition for many families. But you can actually bring the magic to life with your children and grandchildren on the Polar Express Train Ride in North Carolina hosted by Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.
Put on your best jammies and hop on board the Polar Express™, which recreates the magic of the book on an enchanting Christmas trail in North Carolina. The Polar Express:trade; runs from November 8, 2019 through December 31, 2019. Over 70,000 people hopped on board last year.
The waitstaff are dressed in chefs' coats, just like in the beloved book by Chris Van Allsburg. Not only do they serve hot cocoa, but they also sing Christmas carols - which the little ones are encouraged to get involved in.
Your journey to the North Pole lasts an hour and fifteen minutes, but goes by quickly. Once you're near your destination, you hear an announcement Santa has been spotted flying over the train with his reindeer.
You'll arrive to the North Pole where Santa will be waiting.
Just like in the book, each child gets a silver bell. This truly recreates the magic of Christmas but also brings to life the magic behind the Polar Express™. I'm sure after your journey, you will hear the bell ring.
I must say, this would have made my childhood. This Christmas train in North Carolina is a must-have experience. The train rides start at $42 per person adult and $28 per child for coach class. You can ride coach, crown class, or first class (prices will vary).
As far as things to do during the holidays, this just may be the most magical Christmas event in North Carolina! For dates, ticket prices and more information, visit the official website.
UNC-TV made this great video about the Polar Express™ Train Ride if you want to see what it's like to hop on board.
I'd suggest getting your tickets ASAP as popular days tend to sell out. Have you experienced the Polar Express train ride in North Carolina before or plan to this year?
