Enjoy A Sweet Slice Of Summer At The OBX Watermelon Festival

If you're craving a real taste of summer, go to the OBX Watermelon Festival in North Carolina. The festival is free for guests to attend; however, tickets are required to play the fabulous games and eat some great food. Bring your competitive spirit along for the classic competitions. Who knows: You may win a worthwhile prize to take home. Plan on making a t-shirt at the Tie Dye Station, enjoy the Nature Out Loud Interactive Music Performance, take a drum or a ukulele lesson, and make some new memories this summer.

Mark your calendars for the 17th Annual Outer Banks Watermelon Festival at Kitty Hawk Kites.

This super fun event takes place Aug. 3, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Kitty Hawk Kites' location at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing in lovely Nags Head.

Before you do anything, have your face painted by some talented artists.

You'll look so pretty as you participate in what the day brings.

And by all means, wear your best outfit for this social occasion.

Enjoy the unique games, food, and music.

Try out the splash tank, or compete with your friends in an old-fashioned game of cornhole.

If you're not such a fast watermelon eater, you may excel at the seed-spitting contest.

And the watermelon ice cream tastes so yummy, we may have a chance at winning that one.

Don't let that inner voice intimidate you from facing the fierce competition.

We've all been there, and not everyone will win.

But this is a guaranteed fun time for all.

For more information, visit the Kitty Hawk Kites' website. Food Lion also contributes to the OBX Watermelon Festival in North Carolina with part of the proceeds supporting the Outer Banks Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Coalition.

And while you're in Nags Head, walk along the unforgettable Cape Hatteras National Seashore and tour the historic Bodie Island Lighthouse. And don't forget to check out all the unique places to stay in Nags Head!
