On Monday afternoon, thousands of Charlotteans will be gathering to watch the first full solar eclipse since 1979. This is an epic event that most people only get to witness once in a lifetime. If you are looking to experience this amazing natural phenomenon with other Charlotte friends, there are plenty of opportunities to head out to an eclipse viewing party and join in the fun. On Monday, August 21, at approximately 2:41 p.m. the moon will cover 98% of the sun in the Charlotte area.

Many local businesses, including the ones listed below, will be hosting events where people can gather and watch this historic moment together. Check them out.

1. Join fellow science lovers at Discovery Place.

Charlotte's premier science museum will host a viewing from the roof of their parking deck in Uptown Charlotte. Discovery Place guides will be on hand to answer questions and provide interesting facts about this spectacular event. 2. Enjoy the view from the City Lights Rooftop.

City Lights in Uptown Charlotte will be hosting an awesome eclipse viewing party. They have a gorgeous rooftop view of the skyline and will provide eclipse viewing glasses, live music, food and drinks. 555 South McDowell Street

3. Sycamore Brewing will open up their patio to eclipse viewers.

4. If you are in Ballantyne, Wingate University Ballantyne is hosting a viewing event at Audubon Amphitheater.

The University will be hosting an eclipse viewing party for the public in Ballantyne Park's Audubon Amphitheater. The event will be complete with music, food, eclipse glasses and more.

5. Piedmont Social House will be hosting people on their lawn for eclipse viewing.
