Every True North Carolinian Has Had These 15 Bizarre Experiences At Least Once

Discover the best hiking trails in the Pacific Northwest, known for their stunning scenic views and diverse landscapes.

I must say growing up in North Carolina, I feel truly blessed. It's the best mix of southern and culture. From the landscapes, people, to the weather - we get a bit of everything around here, and it makes for a very unique, well rounded group of people, culture, and state. Yet, no state is without its 'um, what?' moments, these 15 have surely happened to each North Carolinian.

1. Going to a BBQ restaurant that has more than one style of BBQ sauce on the table. Real NC joints stay true to their respective sauce. This is just questionable.

2. When the weatherman calls for two inches of snow and everyone subsequently prepares for the apocalypse. I still don't understand the milk and bread concept.

3. When you have to switch from heat to AC....IN.THE.SAME.DAY.

4. Speaking of...when you're wearing a sweater and jeans in the morning and by afternoon shorts and flip flops...and vice versa.

5. During those strange summer storms when it will literally be raining in your neighbor's backyard and not in yours.

6. In the summer when it seems to rain or thunderstorm at the exact same time, every single day, for a week or two.

7. Showing up late because you got stuck behind a tractor. This has happened to me more than once.

8. Meeting another North Carolinian who tells you they just 'don't care much' for college basketball. Even worse when they don't know who Dean Smith or Coach K are (true story).

9. Going to the beach for a long weekend and it rains the whole time. How can you betray me like this?

10. Having to wear a hoodie and pants on the top of Mount Mitchell, in the middle of the summer, and even other parts of the mountains (another true story).

11. Traveling out of state and someone asks you "Your accent is so thick, where are you from?" Then realizing you didn't even realize your accent was so thick!

12. Talking to locals from remote stretches from the OBX and realizing you can only understand half of what they're saying. They're called "hoi toiders" for their unique accents.

13. Realizing you know exactly when summer is coming to an end due to how high the corn is.

14. Being smart, educated and well spoken yet someone still looking at you strangely or judging you because you use words like y'all, yonder, buggy, and ain't. Not to mention all the weird phrases we have down in these parts. Bonus points if you're over 40 and still call elders by ma'am and sir.

15. Having to explain to someone how amazing and beautiful North Carolina is and why they should visit. This is not new information, people!

Funny, true, and so unique to what it means to be born and raised in the Tar Heel state! Which ones do you relate to the most and are there any that you would add?

North Carolinians might be a laid back bunch, but how do you make us mad? These 15 are surefire ways!
