Every town has its rich history full of people like us with dreams and desires so strong it is impossible to think death would stop them.
Theodosia Burr Alston, the daughter of Aaron Burr, might be one still lingering around the city. Over 200 years ago one early January, a ship called The Patriot on which she was traveling, sunk off the coast of North Carolina and was never seen again. Alston and the portrait of herself she was bringing to her father went down with the ship.
It is said the portrait was found by a fisherman, for which Alston is still looking.
One way to find her is to sign up for the 90-minute Ghost Tour of Haunted New Bern and explore the city's most haunted areas.
Be sure to make a reservation.
The tour guides lead by lantern light, adding to the spooky ambiance.
Look closely at this photo. A ghost, circled in red, is seen floating
across the cemetery to the left of the tree.
Another orb is spotted on the right side of this photograph. Who could it be?
The hauntings in Christ Church Cemetery are sought-after New Bern legends.

It is no wonder as the final resting place of Ann Stanly and her husband, John Wright Stanly, is nearby.
Only a month apart, it was yellow fever that sadly killed them in 1789.
Another spot with paranormal activity comes from September of 1711, when the Tuscarora launched a sneak attack on the New Bern settlement, leaving more than 100 people dead.
Some of the corpses from that dark morning never left where the Harvey Mansion now stands.
The "screaming women" have haunted the site ever since.
But wait; there's more.
Dress up in your favorite costumes and join other ghosts, witches, and monsters to take over Tryon Palace.
Bring the kids dressed in their favorite costumes and get into the Halloween spirit!
All Hollows takes place on Oct. 22 for trick-or-treating.
But remember, the dark will soon come and everyone will head home through the haunted streets of New Bern.
