The dogs that are used here for sledding are Alaskan huskies. They're a landrace breed, meaning they don't belong to any official registry. Their appearance varies more than you might see with registered breeds that conform to a registry standard.

Alaskan huskies are descended from a variety of official breeds. Siberian huskies, greyhounds, and pointers have all been bred into lines to increase speed and cold tolerance.

Since the sled travels at a relatively low speed, it's safe for kids to ride, as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult.
