The current iteration of the Catskill Mountain Railroad dates back to 1982. It leases what was formally known as the New York Central Railroad Mountain branch, and it runs from Kingston to Highmount, New York. After that, it links up with the Delaware & Ulster Railroad tourist operation.

The ride is approximately an hour long and pulled by a 1951 Alco RS1 diesel locomotive.

All trains start at the Westbrook Lane Station, which is situated near Kingston Plaza in the Uptown Kingston Stockade District.

The ride runs along ancient farmlands and even crosses the Esopus creek on the C9 bridge. It moves through Hurly Flats and then goes up Hurley Mountain.

Naturally, Ice Cream Sundays offers up great ice cream. They have individually packaged selections of ice cream treats, with enough variety to satisfy even the most fickle customers.

The event runs to mid-September, so visitors have plenty of time to make the trip.

For travelers who happen to find themselves in the Catskills this summer, Ice Cream Sundays is an excellent event that is perfect for the whole family. Tickets are $22 for adults and $16 for children. Senior and military adults can enjoy the event for $20, and toddlers ride for free. While in the Catskills area, why not check out The Arati Store, a charming tiny cafe and store in the area. And, for those looking to spend the night in Kingston, we recommend Courtyard by Marriott Kingston.
