This lighthouse in the middle of the Hudson River is a unique landmark in the state of New York that isn't well-known by most tourists.
The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, also known as the Hudson City Light, is located on the Hudson River between Hudson and Athens and was built in 1874.
The lighthouse is operated by the United States Coast Guard and is maintained by the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society.
The lighthouse was originally built to guide ships down the river, and it is still in operation after nearly 150 years!
If you want to get a closer look at this gorgeous lighthouse, you're in luck! Visitors can take a ride on the Little Spirit, a 15-passenger boat, and enjoy a tour of the lighthouse led by Emily Brunner, a woman who used to live in the lighthouse in the 1930s and 1940s. The boat departs from Water and Ferry Street in Hudson and from 2nd and Waterfront Park in Athens.
The Lighthouse is in the Second Empire style of architecture and is a gorgeous sight for anyone who passes by on the river.
