Halloween is rapidly approaching and the time to be terrified is now! We've already covered family-friendly fall activities with pumpkin patches, but these destinations are not for the faint of heart. If you're looking to lose your head, check out one of the following haunted houses in New Jersey.
1. Brighton Asylum, Passaic
Time Magazine named Brighton as one of the top haunted houses in the United States! Choose from 4 terrifying attractions and buy tickets online to save your soul...I mean save some cash!
2. BANE Haunted House, Livingston
Named "The Scariest Haunted House in New Jersey" by The Star-Ledger, customers may have to climb up, climb over, push through, and spin around what lurks inside the haunted house.
3. Cornfield of Terror, Egg Harbor City
This is a corn maze with a twist, and it's definitely twisted! This is one maze you definitely don't want to get lost in, especially after that farmer went missing. All that remains is a puddle of blood and pieces of flesh!
4. Hayride of Horrors, Hackettstown
This haunted hayride/house combo offers student discounts and free admission to active military members on Sundays. You'll enjoy a solid scare here, especially if you're afraid of clowns! They are pretty creepy, especially when the joke is on you.
5. Nightmare at Gravity Hill, Jackson
This haunted attraction is a nightmare you'll never wake up from!!! Not really, but it is definitely scary. There are many chilling legends surrounding Gravity Hill, only adding to the freak-out factor. If you're up for the challenge, enjoy a round of Zombie Paintball before your haunted experience, not after - you'll be shaking.
6. Schaefer's Fright Fest, Flemington
Schaefer's offers 200 acres of fright including a hair raising hayride, trail of terror and massacre maize! Are you ready to run for your life?
7. The Dark Carnival, Bayville
Choose from 4 circus-themed attractions, one more horrifying than the next. In Night Terrors, you'll need to function without the sense of sight. Will you make it through the night?
8. The Haunted Scarehouse, Wharton
Their website explains it best; "You’ll be trapped inside one of four rooms; the den, bathroom, playroom or kitchen. On the surface, each item may seem insignificant, but together they tell a story about the mysterious Hayden family and solve the puzzles that unlock the key to your freedom. You have your friends, your minds, the clues in the room and 5 minutes to figure your way out before the temperamental Hayden family kills you." Are you up for challenge?
9. Bamboo Gardens Walk of Fear, Southampton
There are 10 terrifying themed areas, all connected by a bamboo maze. Should you fall into the Toxic Dump, you can always wash off at Blood Beach. Though bamboo doesn't seem very scary, this attraction's high ratings would indicate otherwise.
10. Devil's Theater, Rahway
This brand new attraction is a high-scare, high-startle experience. While you are not allowed to touch the actors, they may touch you! Fridays and Saturdays are for the older set, while Sunday nights are family friendly.
11. Night of Terror, Mullica Hill
HGTV featured this attraction as one of the top haunted houses in America! It is also one of the largest with 6 different attractions including a slaughter cave and a chilling corn maze. The hayride of terror is the most popular!
12. Pantophobia, Montvale
Held at DePiero's Farm, this twisted maze and hayride is sure to spook you! Pantophobia is the fear of everything, and you'll likely experience that while you're here. If you think you can outrun the zombies, consider giving Zombiescape a try.
I know there are several others in the state, but I wanted to include only the scariest for a truly terrifying experience! What other haunted attractions would you add to this list?
