The North Country Moose Festival Is Small-Town Charm Wrapped Up Into One Event
Northern New Hampshire's North Country Moose Festival offers a unique and relaxed summer experience with various activities and events.
Northern New Hampshire always seems like a world away from the rest of the state whenever I visit. The pace is slower, the presence of the natural surroundings is greater, and life just seems simpler and more relaxed. Because of this, I really think it's a place that should be experienced first-hand. Out of all of the NH summer festivals, there's one event that truly showcases this region.
The North Country Moose Festival takes place over two days in August; the first day is in Colebrook, NH before moving over to Canaan, VT.
Try your hand at cow plop bingo for the chance to win cash. It's just like regular bingo, but with a twist!
Horse and wagon rides provide a pleasant way to relax and enjoy the festival.
Step back in time at the festival's annual classic car show. Car owners compete for awards and door prizes.
The Axe Women Loggers of Maine will be on hand showcasing their skills as champion choppers, sawyers, logrollers, and axe throwers.
Sugar houses can enter the maple syrup tasting. Visitors can sample the wares and decide on the absolute best.
Do you think you can summon one of the state's official wild residents? Learn how by taking place in the moose-calling competition.
A stunning fireworks display at dusk caps off the day's activities.
If you are planning to be taking a North Country road trip this summer, be sure to set aside time to visit one of the great NH summer festivals. The North Country Moose Festival takes place annually on the weekend before Labor Day. For more information, visit the North Country Chamber of Commerce. If you need a place to stay while in the area, this cozy cabin not far from the festival is the perfect retreat.
Fun festivals abound during New Hampshire's summer season. Put some beer and bacon on your calendar or sample a variety of delicious tastes at this food truck festival.
