10 Things You Must Do In Montana On A Hot, Summer Day
Discover ten enjoyable activities to make the most of a hot summer day in Montana.
With the Fourth of July right around the corner, it's safe to say that summer is in full swing in Montana. You may be tempted to stay inside and hibernate away from the heat, but resist the urge. It won't be long before the temperatures dip below freezing and we're all wishing we'd enjoyed the summertime more.
Here are 10 things to do in Montana on a hot, summer day:
1. Order your coffee iced.
Summer is not time for a piping hot latte. Sip your caffeine over ice.
2. Head to a state park.
Montana has 54 of them, so no matter where you live, you’re never far from a state park.
3. Visit a seasonal business.
So many businesses in Montana are only able to be open seasonally. Find a produce stand, restaurant, water park or other outdoor venue and give them some business.
4. Go to an outdoor festival.
We love to celebrate the sunshine in Montana, and summer is definitely festival season. This is Fort Benton’s annual Summer Celebration.
5. Have some delicious ice cream.
Sweet Peaks? Arrowleaf? Wilcoxson’s? Whatever your ice cream shop of choice may be, a hot summer day is the perfect time to get reacquainted with it.
6. Jump into a lake or swimming hole.
Swimming pools are fine, but nothing tops a nice, cold Montana swimming hole. This is Lava Lake near Gallatin Gateway.
7. Go for a drive down a scenic byway.
There's nothing quite like Going-to-the-Sun Road in the summer.
8. Fire up the grill.
Sure, you could go out if it’s too hot to cook. Or you could barbecue a meal and enjoy it in your backyard with an ice cold beverage.
9. Watch the sunset.
There’s something about a summer sunset in the Treasure State that makes us so grateful we live here.
10. Count your blessings.
We wait all year for these hot Montana summers. Be glad you’re experiencing another sunny day in the Last Best Place.
