The Upper Peninsula Of Michigan Only Has One Drive-In Theater And You’ll Want To Visit

There are still a few places in the Great Lake State where you can step back to the ‘50s such as drive-in movies in Michigan. Head to the only drive-in theater in the Upper Peninsula in Manistique, Michigan to experience a piece of history.

Highway 2 Community Drive-In Theatre is an Upper Peninsula drive-in, about an hour and 20-minute drive from St. Ignace.

This unassuming drive-in theater was built in 1953 and was the site of many first dates and family outings over the years. Unfortunately, the drive-in was abandoned and sat dormant for 15 years until the Upper Peninsula Film Union decided to open it back up to the public.

Not only is this the only operational drive-in movie theater left in the Upper Peninsula, but it’s also very unique because it’s a non-profit organization run by the Film Union.

Bringing the community together is a top priority for Highway 2 Community Drive-In Theatre, which hosts movie events throughout the summer and into the fall. The movie choices might just be the best part, as it shows old-school films like The Goonies, E.T., The Wizard of Oz, Jaws, and more!

Each movie is free admission and the concession stands serve as a fundraiser for the non-profit.
