The Moonwalkers Space Exhibit Is the Perfect Place To Beat the Summer Heat in Boston

Looking for an indoor activity where you can cool off and beat the heat? Journey into space at the immersive Moonwalkers exhibit in Boston.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve waited all winter for the weather to turn, and now that summer is finally here, I’m feeling the heat. Spending too much time outdoors in the city can be downright miserable when the temps hit their highs, so it is always nice to come across a new indoor activity that allows me to cool off and experience some fun. A brand new exhibit called The Moonwalkers is coming to Boston’s Saunders Castle at Park Plaza this summer, and believe me, this is one you won’t want to miss. Whether you are fascinated by space travel, are obsessed with Tom Hanks, or just seek refuge from the sun, this amazing exhibit is for you.

The Saunders Castle always hosts excellent rotating exhibits, and The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks is no exception. The immersive Lightroom experience will be featured in Beantown this summer from June 27 - August 31, 2025, and then it will move on to a second location elsewhere. The experience is about 60-75 minutes in length and is suitable for all ages.

When I think about learning about space travel, a castle is not the first setting that pops into my mind; however, this exhibit somehow flawlessly works in this unexpected venue. As you enter the castle doors, you will be transported into outer space. Sit down and prepare to embark on an immersive 360-degree journey to the moon.

The voyage is narrated (as well as produced) by none other than Tom Hanks, who starred in numerous films including Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. It turns out that Hanks is not only an award-winning actor but also a space enthusiast. Throughout this exhibit, he combines his love of space with his passion for storytelling, and the result is a mind-blowing adventure.

The Moonwalkers is more than just an exhibit; it is a hands-on, emotional journey. Along the way, you will witness exclusive interviews with Artemis astronauts and view rare NASA footage. The incredible projections, orchestral sound, and remastered imagery will make you feel like you are actually walking on the moon’s surface. Be prepared to leave the exhibit with a better understanding of space travel as well as a newfound appreciation for the world beyond our skies.
