Go On A Delicious Adventure At The Museum Of Ice Cream in Massachusetts

Do you have a sweet tooth? Take a visit to Boston's immersive Museum of Ice Cream and embark on a delicious journey full of fun and frozen treats.

Imagine walking into a museum and becoming totally immersed in the smells, tastes, and wonder of your favorite dessert! If that indulgence happens to be ice cream, be prepared for a (very sweet) treat! While there are so many unique and spectacular museums in Massachusetts, there are none quite as delicious as Boston’s newest attraction. If you have a sweet tooth (I know I do), you will definitely want to plan a visit to the brand-new Museum of Ice Cream. I recently toured this flavorful land of adventure and was able to experience all of the whimsical fun and sugary goodness firsthand. I can tell you it was like nothing that I had ever experienced before!

After a much-anticipated wait, this two-story exhibit space paying respect to our favorite frozen treat is finally open in the city’s bustling Seaport District! It will join other area attractions such as the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the Institute of Contemporary Art, and the newly-opened SPIN Boston ping pong bar. The Seaport District is accessible by the MBTA’s Silver Line transit system. This up-and-coming area of the city is both a scenic and fun place to visit.

The Boston Museum of Ice Cream joins five other locations housed in New York City, Chicago, Miami, Austin, and Singapore. All have been wildly popular with guests of all ages. Each location boasts more than just exhibits to walk through and look at; they provide visitors with unforgettable interactive, experiences that awaken and delight the body’s five senses - sight, touch, sound, smell, and taste.

Step inside the Museum of Ice Cream and journey through a delicious land of childlike magic that takes you through 14 scrumptious interactive playscapes. As you move between the brightly-colored rooms (there is a lot of pink here), you will have endless opportunities to test your knowledge of ice cream, learn about the history of the fabulous frozen dessert, play ice cream-themed games, create your signature flavor, take a tasty ride on a “Creamliner” plane, and even host a local “sprinkle” weather forecast. The journey ends with an unforgettable ride down a twisty slide and a dive into a signature pool filled with pink sprinkles (this portion of the museum was my favorite).

The newest Museum of Ice Cream also pays special tribute to its Boston location by featuring an innovative installation called “FunWay Park.” This game room is full of Boston-themed carnival games like ringtoss and skeeball as well as some unique regional tastes (a very memorable part of my visit for sure).

From the beginning of the journey until the end, you will have plenty of chances to try an unlimited amount of ice cream and other delectable treats. Be sure not to visit on a full stomach, or you may miss out on some very interesting flavors. And if those included sweets don’t fill you up, you can also head over to the museum’s retro diner, where you can rest your feet and feast on boozy milkshakes, scrumptious desserts, and even more ice cream!

The Museum of Ice Cream is a fantastic place for “kids” of all ages to visit. It is a perfect spot to bring children, but also a fun destination for a date night or an evening out with friends. You can even host a birthday party, corporate gathering, or special event at the museum.

The Boston Museum of Ice Cream is open every day except for Tuesdays. Prices vary depending on whether you visit on the weekend or during the week. Reservations can be made online ahead of time. I highly recommend booking in advance as this attraction looks to be a popular destination with coveted spots filling up quickly.

Do you plan on visiting the brand-new Boston Museum of Ice Cream? If you have visited any of the other Museum of Ice Cream locations, please tell us all about your experience. What was your favorite ice cream flavor? To find out more information about the Boston Museum of Ice Cream please visit the Boston Museum of Ice Cream website and the Museum of Ice Cream Facebook page. For another delicious experience in the Seaport district, I suggest checking out the Drydock Cafe, a hidden gem with some of the freshest seafood around. And if you are interested in visiting even more local museums, head over to the WNDR Museum, an immersive and interactive art attraction. This amazing museum is another recent addition to the Boston area.
