Looking for local kid-friendly attractions that are also fun for adults? These seven Massachusetts spots are a blast for visitors of all ages.
Are your kiddos getting cabin fever, constantly begging you to entertain them, or spending way too much time in front of screens? If so, now is the perfect time to start planning fun local family outings. If you aren't sure where to visit, don't worry. Only In Massachusetts has you covered. These seven fantastic attractions in Massachusetts make wonderful day trips for restless kids (and adults) of all ages.
1. The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum, Springfield
Who doesn’t enjoy the magic of Dr. Seuss? Whether you are a kid or a kid at heart, you will have a blast exploring this whimsical hidden gem in Springfield. The inside of the museum is filled with fun interactive exhibits, games, and information about the beloved local author. Step outside, and you will find a magical sculpture garden filled with favorite Dr. Seuss characters such as Sam-I-Am and the Grinch.
2. Great Wolf Lodge, Fitchburg
A trip to Great Wolf Lodge is always a great family getaway, and the best part is you can enjoy the water park all year long. I find it is especially fun to visit in the winter when it is cold outside. Not only does the lodge offer exhilarating water slides, a lazy river, and two splash areas, but there are also rides, games, adventure activities, quests, and daily special events.
My family and I have visited several times over the years and it has been so much fun experiencing the different activities as the kids get bigger. During our latest trip, we had a blast going down the fast, four-person tube slide in the water park and later embarking on a family virtual reality quest.
3. Museum of Science, Boston
I’ve been visiting the Boston Museum of Science since I was a kid and have found there is always something new to discover at this amazing family-friendly attraction. My kids and I love the 4D theater, planetarium, and ever-changing exhibits. We can never get enough of the incredible dinosaurs and fossils on the museum's lower level.
4. Seekonk Grand Prix, Seekonk
If your family is looking for a day packed with adventure, a trip to the Seekonk Grand Prix should be on your bucket list. This wonderful go-kart park has rides for all ages, from preschoolers to adults. In addition to the race tracks, there are bumper boats, bumper cars, a ropes course, and mini golf. A trip here will certainly tire the kids out.
5. Southwick's Zoo, Mendon
Who doesn’t love seeing lions and tigers at the zoo? A visit to the largest zoo in New England is the perfect day trip for both kids and adults. At Southwick Zoo, you can view more than 850 animals, ride the zipline, feed the deer, experience a giraffe encounter, and so much more.
6. Museum of Illusions - Boston

The newly-opened Museum of Illusions Boston is an entertaining attraction for visitors of all ages. I recently visited the Washington D.C. Museum of Illusuions and experienced an amazing afternoon of magic and wonder. The museum’s interactive exhibits, illusion rooms, and installations will have your eyes playing tricks on you.
7. Mass Audubon's Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Topsfield
For outside fun, check out the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield. The trails are short and easy, with so much nature to discover along the way. During my last visit, my family and I spotted turtles, beavers, ducks, and snakes. Bring along birdseed and feathered friends will eat right from your hand. The sanctuary's Rockery Trail has a cool man-made rock cave that is so much fun to explore, too.
