Every Saturday and Sunday in the wee hours of the morning, farmer's markets in Louisiana are setting up for the day. These markets are important for local farmers to thrive, and it's always a good idea to support local small businesses. If you find yourself on the hunt for a spot to spend a summer weekend, consider heading over to Mandeville, a beautiful waterfront town in Louisiana with a fabulous farmer's market.
The Mandeville Trailhead is easily one of the most unique examples of upcycling in Louisiana.
Once a train station, now the Mandeville Trailhead (along with a handful of other towns in St. Tammany Parish) turned the area into a multi-functional space with plenty of green space, bathrooms, a stage, and a fun zone for the kids like this splash pad.
Every Saturday morning, it transforms into a fabulous Community Market with 70+ local vendors.
From fresh produce, jams, and jellies...
...to unique artwork and fresh-cut flowers, this community market has a little bit of everything.
Sometimes, there's even live music!
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the show! The Trailhead often hosts a summer concert series (separate from the community market) which is always a good time.
In between shopping, you may be inspired to take a stroll or a bike ride down the Tammany Trace.
The Tammany Trace is a 30+ mile rail trail that runs through five different towns in St. Tammany Parish.
After you've loaded your car up with unique treasures and fresh fruits and veggies, head down to the Lakefront and soak in those beautiful waterfront views.
There are plenty of benches and tables peppered along the walkway, as well as playgrounds for kids. If you can stick around until sunset, you'll be met with a beautiful view like this one!
