Originally used for freight, the train had some rough history.
The Bardstown and Louisville Railroad began in 1860, but didn’t last very long. The railway was purchased by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad at its foreclosure in 1864. Years passed and CSX took over L&N. In 1987 the RJ Corman Railroad company purchased it from CSX and created the dinner train.
The dinner train cars were built in 1940.
They are steel skirted and were built by the Budd Company after WWII. The chef car was initially built in 1948 for the Santa Fe Railroad. It was part of the El Capitan train and held the most modern kitchen equipment of the day. It was purchased and utilized for My Old Kentucky Dinner Train in 1992, and renovated with the most up to date kitchen equipment available, which has since been updated again.
The train has limited hours of operation.
The dinner train has different hours and events monthly, but you can also rent the train for weddings, parties and other events.
The costs vary.
