With a Bar and a Cafe, the Nook & Nowhere Is a Must for Kentucky Booklovers

Kentucky booklovers will enjoy Nook & Nowhere, a Louisville bookstore offering much more than books.

Bookstores are a true haven. Their quiet ambiance, welcoming community, and shelves of unique books are a relaxing escape from modern life. Is there any better place than a bookstore to duck into on a rainy day? I enjoy audiobooks and e-books as much as the next person, but there's something satisfying about physically wandering through a bookstore and holding the books in your hands. Nook & Nowhere is a must-visit bookstore in Louisville, Kentucky, for any booklover.

Nook & Nowhere opened on South Shelby Street in early 2025. Its co-owners, Nicole Stipp and Kaitlyn Soligan Owens, formerly owned another business in the same location, Trouble Bar. The whiskey bar closed just a few months before the bookstore's opening.

Nook & Nowhere is Louisville's first bookstore bar and cafe, serving small bakery treats, coffee drinks, teas, wine, and cocktails. Its menu items include drip coffee, lattes, Americanos, old fashioneds, margaritas, and espresso martinis. Its spring specials include a Lavender Latte and a cocktail called Late Sunsets, with bourbon and honey lavender.

Of course, books are the heartbeat of the business. Nook & Nowhere creates a large table of books and items centered around a new theme each month. The table, referred to as the Book Altar, has featured items with a love theme in the past. In addition to selling new books, Nook & Nowhere also runs a used book sale, where every title is $9. The business also supports local libraries and donates $1 from every title sold to the Louisville Free Public Library, a cause many bibliophiles will no doubt be happy to support.

The bookstore's interior is welcoming and cozy, with colorful furniture and small lamps scattered throughout. It has a large bookcase with a wooden ladder flanked by exposed brick walls. The store also has massive street-facing windows, letting in lots of natural light.

Nook & Nowhere has a large outdoor space with picnic tables, chair seating, and overhead string lights. Wouldn't this be the perfect spot to unwind with a good book and a glass of wine on a warm evening? I'd love to bring my book club here as well.
