I visited Lou Lou on Market for lunch on a sunny January afternoon. Louisville had just experienced what seemed like weeks of bitter-cold weather and snow, and the city was finally starting to thaw out. Due to the weather, I had been home much more than usual and couldn't wait to get out and enjoy a fantastic meal. I sat at the bar and took in the restaurant's unique and sophisticated decor, which included wooden tables, sparkly chandeliers, and a vibrant mural with a New Orleans theme along one wall.

A very friendly waitperson brought me a menu. So many of its items stood out, like the Crab Cake and Creole Mussels appetizers, Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Carbonara, Jambalaya, and She Crab Bisque. I asked for suggestions, and he pointed out the Shrimp and Grits and Roasted Chicken Wrap. It had been a long time since I'd enjoyed Shrimp and Grits, so I jumped at the recommendation. As I waited for my food, I enjoyed the upbeat jazz music and views of Market Street through expansive windows.

In just a few minutes, I had a stunning dish in front of me. It somehow tasted even better than it looked. The grits were creamy, the shrimp were large and juicy, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The dish was topped with pieces of fried okra, and their crunchy texture was the perfect juxtaposition to the rest of the meal.

As I ate, I knew I'd return to Lou Lou on Market. Its lively, polished vibe makes it the perfect spot for a date night or girls' night out. It's casual enough to be family-friendly, and its location is ideal for sightseeing in Nulu or downtown Louisville.
