But for my money, there's no better place to spend Christmas in Iowa than Orange City. This small town of about 6,200 is known for its rich Dutch heritage, and that's never clearer than when Santa Claus comes to town. Or should we say... Sinterklaas? The Dutch version of Santa is a little different, and kids of all ages can meet him as part of Sinterklaas Day - a festival taking place on the first Saturday of December every year. That's just scratching the surface of this unique winter festival in Orange City, Iowa. This town goes all-out, with a combination of parades, games, light displays, shows, and delicious food to celebrate the season. As winter arrives in Orange City, so does festivity - because this December 2, 2023, Sinterklaas is coming to town!

Sinterklaas Day is Orange City's Dutch Christmas celebration, starting with an epic parade.

The Dutch version of Santa looks a little different, but he's just as jolly and will be available for kids to meet through the day.

Traditional Dutch treats will be available - including the town's famous poffertjes. These little pancakes are addictive!

One of the big highlights for kids is the traditional puppet show, telling Dutch fairy tales.

The puppeteers are not only incredibly skilled, but they love to come out and interact with young fans after the show.

The indoor attractions include a variety of traditional Dutch carnival games in which kids can compete, and refreshments are, of course, available.

For adults, the biggest appeal of this event may be the shopping district, which is the perfect place to look for a unique gift.
