Whether you're 9 or 90, certain cultural figures like cartoon characters and comic book figures always retain their appeal. Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Superman: these are timeless names that are beloved not just by kids, but kids at heart, too. One of the most nostalgic and fun museums in Connecticut is the Barker Character, Comic, and Cartoon Museum in Cheshire. This delightful little spot has decades upon decades of toys, ads, figurines, and so much more. A walk through here is like exploring a time capsule of childhood, whether you grew up in the 1950s or the 1990s. It's a place that truly sparks joy, no matter your age.
The outside of the museum is decorated with a variety of cartoon characters from throughout the decades, including new faces like Dora and Po from Kung Fu Panda.
Inside, you'll find more than 80,000 artifacts from the last century and a half of pop culture. This started as a private collection belonging to Gloria and Herbert Barker, who have spent more than 40 years amassing this treasure trove.
The toys and exhibits here date all the way back to 1873. For a relatively small museum, there is a lot to see here.
You'll see plenty of modern items on display here too, including items from recent Disney movies and cartoons.
The collection isn't just limited to cartoon characters. Comic books are well-represented too, with plenty of items relating to Superman and Marvel heroes like The Hulk.
This place is a nostalgic trip down memory lane for people of all ages.
Admission is a bargain at under $5 a person, so make time to stop by next time you're in the area.
This is one of our favorite hidden gems in Connecticut. For more information about the Barker Character, Comic, and Cartoon Museum, check out the museum's Facebook page or website.
