Nearby Geauga County is beautiful, but they've managed to keep one incredible destination secret over the years.
Burton is a village of fewer than 2,000 residents, but it is overflowing with character. The historical society has organized a truly unique attraction that enchants the public with the story it tells.
These are the grounds of Century Village Museum, located just past the southern end of Burton Square.
For nearly 77 years, this living history museum has offered visitors a glimpse back in time.
Its metaphorical doors first opened in 1942, and the public was utterly charmed by what they saw. Well-loved and impeccably preserved homes from the 1800s gave a peek back into well over a century of history, though visitors could only enter the Hickox House at the time.
Throughout these lovely historic homes are antiques and collectibles from the 1800s.
During tours, you may also see an apothecary, church, school, and other beautifully crafted structures.
And, during special events, historical reenactors often stop by for a visit.
The events reflect life from circa 1798 up to the turn of the 19th century. The Civil War demonstrations are particularly popular, and children love learning about pioneer school.
Though tours are typically only offered in the warmer months, there are many year-round events that should not be missed.
Christmas is a particularly lovely season to visit the Geauga Crossroads Store, which is located on the campus of the museum.
This store is only open through December 22 this year, so you simply must plan a visit to conquer those last-minute gifting needs. Click here for hours and details.
With so much history and beauty alike, it is no wonder Geauga County residents have cherished this charming museum for so long.
You can find this enchanting destination at 14653 E. Park St., Burton, OH.
The simplicity of yesteryear can be alluring, and this one fairytale-like village can take you back in time. There's no time like the present to swing by their store for some holiday gifting! Who will you be taking along?
