The Stunning Top-Secret Natural Spring Near Cleveland Nobody’s Ever Heard Of

Back in 2006, Fiji Water made headlines for the wrong reasons: they ran an ad campaign nodding to the name of their brand, stating, "It's not bottled in Cleveland." Cleveland naturally clapped back, testing the quality of local water versus various types of bottled water. Our water, the results showed, was clean and crisp. Despite our water making national headlines, Fiji did kind of have a point... nothing quite compares to the crispness of water that comes straight from a natural spring. Fortunately, there's a source of natural spring water near Cleveland where you can enjoy a naturally-filtered, Health Department-approved drink. Gas up the car and bring a few water bottles, because you'll want to fill up on this water!

You've just stumbled upon Deep Springs Trout Club.

Located in Chardon, this one-of-a-kind destination is close enough to home for a quick trip. The spring water here is said to be the purest natural water supply in Northeast Ohio, and it makes the lake and stream on the property the ideal temperature and pH for trout to live and thrive in.

The crown jewel of the property is its two acre lake.

Absolutely beautiful and crystal clear, this lake often reflects the sky and surroundings to create an environment that would knock the socks off imaginative Impressionist painters. It's part of the reason the Deep Springs Trout Club was founded here in 1963... sport fishing on the property is a cherished pasttime.

Club members love to stop by, soak up the views, and grab a bite to eat at the club restaurant.

The 65-seat restaurant naturally serves trout and fish, but it's also a great spot for pasta, steaks, sausage, and antipasto. You do have to be a member to dine at the club, so if fishing is your thing, this is one spot you'll want to keep on your radar.

For the general public, the natural draw here is the fresh spring water that can be purchased by the gallon.

Bring your own containers or purchase jugs on-site to fill up... it's just 50 cents per gallon. This water comes from a natural spring that's hidden 320 feet underground, filtered by naturally occurring Sharon Conglomerate that removes impurities like phosphates and iron.

This mineral-rich water is delicious, refreshing, and pure, and the club has the receipts to show it.

Since 1963, the Health Department has stopped by on a quarterly basis to test the spring water. The reports are posted in the clubhouse, adding credence to the claim that this is the purest spring water around. So if you have any reservations about the quality of this drinking water, rest assured that it has been tested and is safe to drink. Regular patrons would even assert that this is some of the most flavorful, delicious mineral water around.

The club is closed on Mondays and holidays like Easter, but otherwise, you can stop in during the warmer months each Tuesday through Sunday between 9 a.m. and dusk to fill up.

Pause to take in the surroundings while you grab some water. This property is beautiful, and the water is stunning and clear. Please note that winter hours are different... it's only open each Friday through Sunday, and the gates close at 5 p.m., so you'll want to plan winter water-getting trips accordingly.

If you're lucky enough to know a Deep Springs Trout Club member, ask to join them for dinner and explore the property a bit.

There's a lot of history here that extends beyond the water, and there's endless beauty to take in. Unfortunately, the general public is really only welcome to grab some spring water and admire the lake for a moment, but if you get a chance to experience everything, you should absolutely take it.
