There is never a bad time to celebrate local history! There are so many enchanting locations throughout Greater Cleveland that offer a glimpse back in time, but few are as hands-on as the fantastic historic village hiding in plain sight in a bustling suburb. Unlike many local historic sites, this one is not seemingly frozen in time. Here, you will explore a number of lifestyles from the city's rustic roots to its fascinating Victorian era.
Welcome to the Strongsville Historical Society and Village.
This charming village is hidden right beside Strongsville City Commons, the park that is famous for hosting the annual Winter Wonderland holiday lights display.
At this tiny village, you can discover just how quaint life in this modern city once was.
Though Strongsville is known today as a bustling economic hub featuring the likes of SouthPark Mall, this village will offer you a glimpse into its humble beginnings. Each building displays remarkable artifacts that hail from all around Northeast Ohio.
It documents history that many Ohioans can relate to.
This petite log cabin was actually built in Holmes County circa 1840 and reconstructed at its current site in 1976. It was a fairly accurate portrayal of what Strongsville had once looked like when its first settlement popped up between 1816 and the mid-1820s. And that's not the only artifact that hails from outside of Strongsville - you'll uncover a history that may even intertwine with your own.
Each building was constructed at a different point in history, but they all have a story to tell.
This building, once known as Miss Gilbert’s Academy, once provided high school education to young women in the Strongsville area. Today, it is a museum that displays local artifacts. Some even predate this founding of the school (in 1842) by two decades!
You can get to know the site via a guided tour.
Tours are offered for $5 per adult, $4 per senior, and $2 for children between 6 and 12 years of age. This historic tour will entrance visitors of all ages.
The historical society also hosts frequent public events that make the village blossom.
