There are an epic amount of great restaurants in Wisconsin where you can get a great meal. But there are only a handful of themed restaurants across the state that really bring the fun into eating out. These places immerse you in an idea and make a meal there about way more than just the food. Meals at these 12 spots are truly an experience. In no particular order, here are 12 wacky places to enjoy a meal:
1. Georgie Porgie's - Oak Creek and Mount Pleasant
This delicious restaurant is treehouse themed. Your kids will love exploring the unique decor and you'll love the amazing burgers and custard that are all locally sourced.
Georgie Porgie’s is located at 9555 S Howell Ave in Oak Creek and 5502 Washington Ave in Mount Pleasant.
2. Al Johnson's - Sister Bay
This place is a true state icon. Where else can you get a towering plate of whipped cream-covered pancakes or waffles and check out the live goats grazing on the roof? There's a reason this place has lasted so long and it isn't because of the goats. The food is so good, the atmosphere welcoming and the experience unlike any other.
Located at 10698 N Bay Shore Dr, Sister Bay, WI 54234.
3. Tom's Burned Down Cafe - La Pointe
This spot really defies description. It's the leftover bits of a spot that suffered a fire and it's sort of infamous for keeping the party going no matter what. It's a total local hot spot but also exactly what you expect to find on vacation.
Tom’s is located at 274 Chebomnicon Rd, La Pointe, WI 54850. You’ll need to take the ferry from Bayfield to get there.
4. The Classic Garage - Eau Claire
Texas transplants and business investors have taken what used to be a service station and reimagined it as a great restaurant. Today, it serves as both a restaurant and Cadillac showroom. It's a totally fun and unique spot.
Located at 2111 3rd St, Eau Claire, WI 54703
5. AJ Bombers - Milwaukee
The peanuts get delivered via overhead "bomb" and the burgers are some of the most unique and delicious you'll find. Sort of a new old standard at this point, it's not been around forever, but it kind of feels like it has been. Now that they're serving at Miller Park and the Summerfest grounds, you can have a Bomber Burger pretty much any time you want.
Located in Milwaukee at 1247 N Water Street and in Wauwatosa at 11340 W. Burleigh St.
6. Maggie's - Bayfield
Sometimes called the Pink Palace or even just FlamingoLand, Maggie’s is a bar with a theme – and boy, do they stick to it. If a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance, then never has a "mascot" so perfectly described a place.
Maggie’s is located at 257 Manypenny Ave, Bayfield, WI 54814.
7. Charlie's Choo Choo - Kenosha
There are a few spots in the state where you can have your food delivered via toy train, but Choo Choo Charlies is located in a depot, so you can also see real trains coming and going and even hop on one yourself. Or ride the Kenosha streetcar.
Located at 5414 13th Ave, Kenosha, WI 53140.
8. The Safe House - MIlwaukee
We'd tell you more about this amazing spy-themed spot hidden in plain sight in Milwaukee, but then we'd have to kill you. Fully updated and with a really, really good new menu, the Safe House is an awesome combo of all the old things you might remember and a clean, updated look. Just remember the password, or you'll have to "earn" your way back in the next time you go.
Located at 779 N Front St., Milwaukee, WI 53202.
9. Camp Tripalindee - Madison
Camp Trippalindee is located on the top floor of the Graduate Hotel in Madison and it's basically the best mix of "Up North" living, kitschy decor, nostalgia, delicious food and drinks and killer views. They've got an amazing rooftop deck area where they've got fire pits and you can make s'mores!
Camp Tripalindee is located at the top of the Graduate Hotel in Madison – 601 Langdon St, Madison, WI 53703.
10. Pizza Doctors - LaCrosse
Do you have a serious vitamin pizza deficiency? The staff at Pizza Doctors can fix you right up. The whole restaurant sports a medical theme, which would be fun enough on its own - but the pizza is incredible, too. You'll find some of the most unique, creative toppings ever here.
Located at 624 King St, La Crosse, WI 54601.
11. PC Junction - Bailey's Harbor
This is the ultimate train-themed restaurant. Every detail here has been thought of, from outside decor and play areas to the interior where your food is delivered via model train. Located at 7898 Co Rd A, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202.
12. Grate Mac & Cheese - Milwaukee
In Wisconsin, we love cheese and one of the very best ways to feature that food is in an ooey, gooey bowl of mac and cheese. There's just something really nostalgic and comforting about the dish, even if this stuff blows that boxed stuff out of the water.
Located at N92 W16125 Falls Pkwy., Menomonee Falls, WI 53051
