This Little Known Place In Wisconsin Is The Perfect Place To Get Away From It All

Door County is a great place to get away from it all in general. But you might not know that, on the Door County peninsula, is one of the few places in Wisconsin that has sand dunes: Whitefish Dunes State Park.

1. Whitefish Dunes State Park comprises 867 acres.

2. It is the largest sand dune area on the Western shore of Lake Michigan.

3. You will see loads of wildlife scampering around the park.

4. You can walk along a nice boardwalk over some of the sandy areas.

5. Here are the highest dunes in the state: up to 90 feet tall.

6. It was occupied from 100 B.C., as evidence of ancient pottery has been found here.

7. People do all sorts of recreational activities here like hiking, fishing, canoeing, boating, and swimming.

8. The area has several trails, including the Brachipod trail, which is 1.5 miles long and has fossils along it.

9. Walking up some of the dunes and looking out to the lake, you get some of the best views Wisconsin has to offer.

10. This is the perfect place to take it all in, and you will feel like you are away from it all.
