From classic home cooking to Italian bistros and hot dog joints, it seems as though there's something for every taste preference.

1. January: Coleman's Fish Market - Wheeling
For some of the best fast food (and the best fried fish) in the Mountain State, head to Coleman's Fish Market in Wheeling. They're a dining icon here in West Virginia. Since 1914, the seafood joint has been serving up scrumptious hand-filleted fish sandwiches that locals adore. It's open every day except Sunday from breakfast to dinner time.
2. February: Leonoro's Restaurant - Charleston
West Virginia has some great Italian restaurants, and one of the best, longest-lasting in the state is Leonoro's Spaghetti House in Charleston. Leonoro's opened in 1915 and has been serving up the most delicious meatballs in red sauce, spaghetti, and all sorts of pasta and classic Italian dishes since. It's one of the most comforting restaurants in West Virginia. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
3. March: North End Tavern & Brewery - Parkersburg
North End Tavern & Brewery is West Virginia's oldest restaurant, famous for its burgers and brews. It's truly worth a spot on everyone's bucket list. This historic spot has some great classic fare, and hosts events and caters for local gatherings. Hours are Monday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Labor Day to Memorial Day.
4. April: Grand China Buffet and Grill - Clarksburg

The 200-foot buffet at Grand China Buffet and Grill in Clarksburg is probably among the biggest you've ever seen. There's food for just about every palate here—from steamed veggies to noodles, stir-fry, rice, and more. Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior: this buffet is sure to leave you happy and full. Hours are Tuesday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Monday and Sunday until 9:30 p.m.
5. May: Pizzas & Cream - Nebo

Pizzas & Cream in Nebo may feel remote, but it's worth the trip. Chow down on a wood-fired pizza, enjoy the scenery of this mountain farm, and of course, save room for ice cream. The outdoor seating and classic flavors make it the perfect kick-off to summer for your West Virginia food bucket list. It's open Tuesday through Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
6. June: Skyline Drive-In - Hilltop
This drive-in isn't just cute—it's also got a spooky backstory. Troubled country music legend Hank Williams was found dead at Skyline Drive-In, in the back of his blue Cadillac. Now, the drive-in is known as "Hank's Last Stop." If you're a lover of historical lore, as well as insanely delicious hot dogs, you've come to the right place. 7. July: Hillbilly Hot Dogs - Lesage
Speaking of hot dogs, you've got to make a pit stop at Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Lesage. You'll know you've arrived when you see the larger-than-life hot dog statue out front. It's considered one of the Mountain State's most famous restaurants, particularly for its "Homewrecker," a one-pound hot dog with all the fixings. The joint is open Monday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
8. August: Bluestone Dining Room - Pipestem
Round out the summer with a meal at The Bluestone Dining Room, located within the Pipestem Resort State Park's McKeever Lodge. Take in stunning views of the gorge through the restaurant's expansive windows, and enjoy an array of gourmet breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. It's a one-of-a-kind dining experience you simply won't forget—plus, you don't have to be staying at the resort to enjoy it! Open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
9. September: The Blue Moon Cafe - Shepherdstown
Once fall comes around, you'll want to immerse yourself in the vibrant foliage West Virginia has to offer. One place to do that is the Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, a cozy restaurant nestled in the heart of a forest. Enjoy comforting foods like quiche or cheesesteaks, while taking in the scenery and whimsical decor on the patio. The cafe is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
10. October - Gateway Restaurant, Riverton
Another great fall spot up in the mountains is The Gateway Restaurant in Riverton. It's located near Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, and more—perfect for leaf peeping and enjoying the autumn weather. The restaurant serves up ultra-comforting diner fare like fish and chips, chopped salads, burgers and fries, you name it. And definitely save room for banana cream pie when you visit.
11. November: Pinnacle Drive Inn - Pineville
If you aren't already full from Thanksgiving festivities, head over to Pinnacle Drive Inn in Pineville for some delicious far. They've got slaw dogs, juicy burgers, and even a deep-fried turkey sub that's good any time of year. Don't let the restaurant's exterior fool you—the food here will have you dreaming about your next visit. Hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
12. December: The Pizza Slice - Snowshoe
If you're fitting in some winter fun at Snowshoe Mountain Resort, be sure to stop by The Pizza Slice—a family owned and operated pizza joint serving up the most delicious wood-fired, sourdough pies. The pizza is always hot and fresh, and definitely hits the spot after a day of skiing and snowboarding. Find the restaurant inside the Corduroy Inn; it's open daily at 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. (and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday).
