West Virginia is the only one of the 50 states to have two panhandles. Typically, the Eastern Panhandle gets all the attention, maybe because of popular tourist attractions like Harpers Ferry. But the Northern Panhandle also has plenty of fun sites that are well worth a visit!

A famous attraction in the uppermost tip of the Northern Panhandle is the World's Largest Teapot in Chester, West Virginia. It's 14 feet high by 14 feet wide - that's a lot of tea!

Chester itself is the northernmost point of West Virginia, and as such, is the northernmost point of the Southern United States. It's actually the same latitude as parts of New York City/Staten Island.
As you head south from Chester, stop by the Weirton Area Museum and Culture Center.

The Northern Panhandle is also known for her bridges, particularly the Wheeling Suspension Bridge, which is the largest suspension bridge of its time and the first to span a significant river west of the Appalachian Mountains.

Then cross the street from the Grave Creek Mound to observe or tour the West Virginia Penitentiary, an old, gothic-style prison.

It's considered by many to be one of the most haunted prisons in the United States, and during the Halloween season it serves as the setting for the haunted attraction "Dungeon of Horrors."
