Enjoy The Ultimate Staycation By The Salish Sea At Semiahmoo Resort In Washington
In a time where exotic travel looks like it might be tricky for a while, it feels especially wonderful to live in Washington. We have the ability to stay in a cabin in the mountains, a farmhouse in the rolling, rural hills, a chateau in wine country, or a beachfront hotel without ever leaving our beautiful state. And there’s a charming resort surrounded by gorgeous scenery near the Canadian border that offers everything you need for a perfect vacation, all without ever driving off the property.
If you have yet to stay at Semiahmoo, treat yourself to the ultimate Pacific Northwest getaway.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
Semiahmoo Resort is located in Blaine, surrounded by the calming Salish Sea.
This is a 3-star resort, meaning it's fairly affordable, especially in the off-season. But rest assured, you'll receive 5-star service and access to plenty of amenities. Plus, since the property used to belong to a cannery, you'll see some of the original historic buildings (and even an old shipwreck!) when you explore.
If you book a water view room, you'll be able to see White Rock, British Columbia from your balcony or patio.
This stretch of private beach is also where you'll come each night to build a fire and enjoy S'mores by the sea.
Guest rooms range from classic kings and queens to spacious suites.
You'll either have views of the lawn or the water, neither of which will disappoint.
The classic junior suites have more expanded living rooms and fireplaces, and the executive suites offer separate living areas.
The resort is a perfect place to enjoy some winter storm watching as well as holiday celebrations, which might warrant a little splurge on some extra space.
The casual onsite cafe has a full coffee shop, breakfast sandwiches, and picnic lunches you can take right down to the beach -- but for an incredibly delicious happy hour or dinner, head straight to Packers Kitchen & Bar.
Between the sweeping views of the water, the outdoor seating, and the friendly service, you won't want to go anywhere else for your evening meal (it's also open for brunch in the summertime).
Packers Kitchen serves seafood, wood-stone pizza, an epic build-your-own burger, and an array of hearty entrees.
They partner with local purveyors to ensure that everything is as fresh as possible.
Semiahmoo also has a full golf course, the Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club, which is where you'll find the casual Great Blue Heron Grill.
Seating at both spots is limited to 50% capacity for a while, but Packers Kitchen accepts reservations daily.
While some of Semiahmoo's amenities must remain closed to the public for a while (the heated pool, the hot tub, the fitness center, and the movie theater, for example), you'll still find plenty of ways to stay busy while you're here.
The spa and salon are both open to guests for posh pampering, the pickleball courts are open, and the front desk will let you borrow some board games for a family game night. Once Washington's businesses fully re-open, guests will be able to host large weddings and events here, or even get a taste of Semiahmoo's private wine club.
The Beach Activities Center, open May through September, offers bike, kayak, and paddleboard rentals at an affordable rate.
Kayak and paddleboard rentals are only $20 an hour, and it's a perfect way to explore the area by sea.
It's impossible to describe the sunsets here until you see one for yourself.
This area has a lot to offer. Blaine is a charming little border town, Bellingham has some fantastic restaurants and attractions, Whatcom Falls Park and Birch Bay State Park are both amazing. But if you park your car at Semiahmoo Resort on a Friday and don't move it until you leave on Sunday, you'll still have a completely fulfilling experience.
