Don't worry, Seattle - you'll always hold the title of the most eccentric part of Washington. That being said, those who are intimidated by the massive size of the Emerald City can still find plenty of quirky places to visit in the Evergreen State. And if it's been awhile since you've been to Bellingham, pack your bags for the northwest corner of Washington... and prepare to fall in love.
Bellingham has been called a slightly less eccentric Portland... but only slightly less.
It's really no wonder that Bellingham is so laid back. It's bordered by Bellingham Bay, near Mount Baker and is surrounded by nature.
Of course, much of its eccentricity comes from the presence of Western Washington University.
College students always add a unique flair to a city.

HomeSkillet is one of the best, and most vibrant, restaurants in town.
And then there's Brotha Dudes, which is just as awesome as it sounds.
With menu items like the Hippie Bowl, the Dudes Blunt and the Quesa-Dude-a, you really can't help but love this place.
If there's one thing Bellingham-dwellers love, it's nature.
You'll find urban trails and parks everywhere, like Whatcom Falls Park, pictured here. There's even a beautiful arboretum on the WWU campus.
Bellingham's downtown area has been revitalized in recent years.
You'll see some stylishly refurbished warehouses and co-ops where industrial waterfront buildings once stood.
The historic Fairhaven Historic District is full of charming shops, attractions and eateries.
This is Fairhaven Fish and Chips, a food bus.
You know your city is eccentric when people dance in the streets.
Downtown Sounds is an annual concert series full of free, family-friendly performances celebrated in the Arts District on Bay Street. It's one of many events and festivals Bellingham hosts throughout the year.
Bellingham is such a beautiful place to visit and a fun place to live. When you go, make sure you drive a little further north and check out Lynden.
