Celebrity-owned businesses have grown in popularity over the years. Big cities like New York and Los Angeles boast swanky restaurants and wine bars owned by athletes, musicians, and actors. Our own Ridgefield, Washington, is home to basketball great Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse. Still, you might be surprised to learn that the unassuming town of Walla Walla is considered one of the finest wine regions in the country. Consequently, here you’ll find a celebrity-owned wine-tasting room, Pursued by Bear, and it’s undeniably one of the best places to enjoy wine tasting in Washington.
Pursued by Bear Wine is the brainchild of actor and Yakima native Kyle MacLachlan.
MacLachlan is known for his roles in "Twin Peaks," "Desperate Housewives," and "Portlandia," to name a few, but his interest in winemaking goes back to his Yakima roots.
Born out of an interest in fine wine and a desire to honor his rural Eastern Washington home, proprietor and founder Kyle MacLachlan created the first Pursued by Bear wine in 2005.
Drawing inspiration from Shakespeare, Pursued by Bear takes its name from "The Winter's Tale," Act III Scene iii, in which Antigonus exits, you guessed it, "pursued by bear."
Carefully-selected grapes and traditional winemaking techniques result in the finest range of complex, multi-layered flavors and a special glass of wine.
Pursued by Bear's wine tasting room is charmingly described as "The World’s Most Splendid Tasting Room of all the tasting rooms located in pink buildings on Palouse Street." And though their description may be a bit tongue-in-cheek, we must concur. This little gem is a lovely hamlet (pardon the Shakespearean pun) to gather with friends.
