Here in Virginia, we love a good themed restaurant. From quirky to downright bizarre, these lively restaurants offer entertainment as well as delicious dining. Today, we’ll focus on one such restaurant that’s so perfectly Virginia. The “theme” is colonial, although considering the fact that the restaurant was established in the 1700s, it’s more a style than anything else. Here’s more on Michie Tavern, a famous Virginia eatery that takes you back in time:
For an authentic 18th-century dining experience, it doesn’t get much better than Michie Tavern. This gorgeous building dates back to 1784 and is located at 683 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville VA 22902.
Step inside and you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported back to the eighteenth century. Staff members, dressed in period attire, will gladly offer traditional midday fare.
The rustic restaurant setting is perfect for enjoying classic Southern favorites like fried chicken, homemade biscuits, beans, slaw, and of course, gravy to top all of it.
Don’t be afraid to try something new — or in this case, very traditional — such as Blancmange, an almond creme gelatin served with strawberries and fresh mint.
If you visit the Tavern for lunch, you may notice there’s a line out the door. Rest assured, though, because the food and unique setting inside are well worth the wait!
