An enchanting land of high mountains, pristine valleys, and green woodlands awaits you in Virginia’s very own Little Switzerland. While Highland County is worlds away from Europe, this part of the state is equally breathtaking. Here’s more on the charming remote county and while you’ll want to plan your trip there soon:
The breathtaking Highland County is located beyond the Shenandoah Valley in an area that boasts the highest mean elevation of anywhere east of the Mississippi.
In addition to gorgeous scenery, Highland County’s claim to fame is the annual maple festival. Harvested from local trees, the maple syrup is some of the best and purest in the nation.
Once you try the homemade maple syrup, you’ll understand why nearly 50,000 people flock to this part of Virginia each year. The festival is set to take place March 10th-11th, and 17th-18th of next year.
Gorgeous any time of year, Highland County flourishes during the spring and summer. As you gaze out upon the valley, you’ll notice over 400 square miles of mountain terrain.
The picture-perfect Highland County makes for a memorable day trip, and whether you're looking for something active or a peaceful visit, you'll love your time spent in Little Switzerland.
