Well, it’s actually located downtown, but you wouldn’t know it existed unless you were seeking it out. That’s because it’s a speakeasy complete with a hidden entrance and required password to get in. You might be a lifelong resident of Richmond, Virginia and still perhaps never heard of the speakeasy Grandstaff & Stein. Located on E. Main Street, this hidden gem of a restaurant is hiding in plain view.
That's because there's nothing about the outside of the building -- or even the entrance -- that would suggest that this place is a restaurant. In fact, the second entrance that takes you to the restaurant is actually disguised as a bookcase. How cool is that?!
If you know the correct password, you'll be granted entry to this fantastic bar and restaurant. Curious how to get the password? You'll get one when you make a reservation. (We also hear the staff is pretty friendly about giving you hints!)
You'll love the 1920s prohibition-era style of the interior. You'll feel like you've traveled back to a time where purchasing alcohol was off-limits and loopholes became a necessity for those looking to go out on the town.
The menu is selective but delicious. You'll find a range of delicious appetizers, snacks, and larger plates. Favorites include the baked brie, shrimp cocktail, and stuffed mushrooms.
