The great thing about road trips is that there really aren't any rules. Other than getting in the car and going, picking the route and stops along the way are the only other things you have to do. When it comes to road-tripping, Wyoming has a lot to offer. Tour our great state with any one of the most beautiful drives in Wyoming that are sure to leave an impression on anyone who hits the road and explores.
1. Beartooth Highway, US Highway 212
Often described as America's most scenic road, a trip along the Beartooth Highway takes you on a picturesque drive near the Wyoming - Montana border. You'll climb to over 10,000 feet on the Beartooth Pass, pass through lush forests, and enjoy sweeping views of Beartooth Lake and many of the hundreds of other mountain lakes in this particular Wyoming range. Most of the mountain peaks you'll glimpse are between 11,000 and 12,000 feet, but their littlest brother, Beartooth Mountain holds its own in the category of being memorable.Read more about this remarkable highway right here.
2. Black Hills National Forest, Wyoming
You'll probably want to spend part of your Black Hills road trip outside of the car, hiking, biking, picnicking, or watching the buffalo roam. With 39 campgrounds throughout the park, you'll even have a place to stay overnight. Devils Tower National Monument is another attraction in the Black Hills National Forest, an unforgettable sight you won't want to miss.
3. Bighorn Mountain Range by way of Gillette, Buffalo, and Sheridan, Wyoming
This Wyoming road trip starts in Gillette, where you'll want to visit the Rockpile Museum before heading out, due west, on I-90. Stop along the way in Buffalo to get rest and refreshment at the Clear Creek Brewing Company and take in some Wyoming history at the Occidental Hotel Museum. Further on down the road is Sheridan and the entrance to the Big Horn National Forest, one of the country's oldest federally protected mountain range and forest areas.
4. Bighorn Canyon Loop - U.S. Route 14, Wyoming
An alternative way to enjoy the majesty of the Bighorn Canyon area is to road trip U.S. Route 14. It splits in two directions just east of Cody, going both north and south and converging back into one road near Burgess Junction inside the Bighorn National Forest. Whichever direction you choose to travel the loop, you'll be treated to gorgeous vistas while stopping along the way at quaint Wyoming towns such as Lovell, Greybull, and Shell.
5. Grand Teton Loop, U.S. 89
Loops make excellent road trips and one that can't be missed is the one that takes you through Grand Teton National Park. Start out in Moose, Wyoming, and travel through the park first. You'll be treated to the attractions that make this road trip unforgettable such as views of the Tetons and striking lakes (like Jenny Lake, below) along the way. 6. Cheyenne to Pinedale, Wyoming
Any road trip that starts in Cheyenne requires at least driving by the state capitol building. Then head west on I-80, stopping by Laramie for a tour of the University of Wyoming Geological Museum. Further up the interstate is Rawlins, home of the Wyoming Frontier Prison and Carbon County Museum.
Up the road a way, you'll go through Rock Springs before you hit Pinedale, and it's worth the slight detour to go see the White Mountain Petroglyphs. Finally, you'll end up in Pinedale - the best little city you'll ever visit.
7. Laramie to the Wind River Range, Wyoming
This road trip starts out in Laramie where you can spend some time at the Deerwood Ranch Wild Horse EcoSanctuary before heading northwest on US 287 through the otherworldly Wind River Range.
8. Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

9. Chief Joseph Scenic Byway, WY 296, Wyoming
There are many memorable sights along this stretch of highway near the Shoshone National Forest and Yellowstone National Park including thousands of acres of hills and rock formations, Sunlight Basin, and a 1200-foot-deep canyon, plus wildlife, of course.Read more about this spectacular road right here.
10. Shoshoni to Thermopolis, Wyoming
It's one of the shorter road trips on the list, but the drive from Shoshoni to Thermopolis is considered one of the top scenic drives in the state. It follows the Wind River and passes through Boysen State Park.
When you wind up in Thermopolis, be sure to see the amazing local sights such as nature's masterpiece, the Teepee Fountain, before relaxing in the hot pools the city is known for. Read more about Thermopolis right here!
